September 5, 1977: to Crawford Ware*

"Children are born religious like primitive tribes, 'Not in utter nakedness and not in utter forgetfulness, but trailing clouds of glory do we come...' They are born in touch with the powers that control the galaxies, the flowering of a geranium, the lifespan of a butterfly, and the ripening of corn in the field. Echoes of the music of the spheres are still inside their fuzzy little heads when they emerge from their mothers -."

* This unfinished letter to her ex-husband Crawford was never sent.
